The Rise of the Hollywood Studio System The Hollywood Studio System, also known as the "Golden Age of Hollywood," was in operation from the 1920s to the 1960s. It was particularly successful in the 1930s and produced films that are still popular almost a hundred years later. The System’s inequity and contractual servitude, however, eventually contributed to its demise. But during that period, despite the historical backdrop of the Great Depression and World War II, movies destined to be classics rolled off the studio production lines at amazing speed.
