In today's hypersonic world of news, fact and fiction, and a deluge of content, there is something calming and reassuring in watching or reading a work of screwball comedy.
To me, screwball comedies are a unique sub-genre of romantic comedies that gained popularity during the 1930s and 1940s. They are characterized by a combination of elements that set them apart from other comedy films and novels:
1. Fast-paced, witty dialogue
2. Battle of the sexes
3. Social satire
4. Slapstick humor and physical comedy
5. Farce and absurd situations
6. Screwball characters
7. Romantic resolution
What are some of your favorite screwball comedies in movies or books?
Are you incorporating any of these elements in your writing?
